MISSION:

To educate children and young adults about Autism.

History | Vision|& Overview:

The Autism Quilt is a project c/o founded by The Gem Project and The Guardian Fellowship. It was founded on March 2008, in preparation for an Autism awareness luncheon, hosted by The Gem Project at Rutgers University-Newark. Jason Khurdan, founder of The Guardian Fellowship, has worked diligently with the mentoring of children in the urban community. Khurdan is also a fellow colleague and alumni with Amanda Ebokosia of Rutgers University, who is the founder of The Gem Project.

Ebokosia sought out partnership with Khurdan and his organization, The Guardian Fellowship, to help complete the first Gem Project’s Autism awareness luncheon. During that time, Khurdan also served as Chief of the Children’s sector at The Gem Project. During this period, the idea of an Autism quilt was discussed. When one thinks of a quilt, they think of it as being the final product of pieces from a complex puzzle. That is what Autism is, a puzzling neurological disorder that affects several families and individuals today.

Decals of large blank puzzles are sent out to students from participating schools to decorate as they wish. This is done after one of our volunteers or representatives have already informed the select group about Autism. Our main goal is to have Autism quilt displays showcased permanently at various scholarly institutions.
